Questions about the cost of smoking and savings

How much does a pack a day cost over a year?

A pack of 20 cigarettes a day means 365 packs a year. As an example, with a pack at €12 that is €4,380 a year (12 × 365). Enter your real price in the calculator to get your own figure.

How much does one cigarette cost?

The cost of one cigarette is the pack price divided by the number of cigarettes in it. For example, a pack of 20 at €12 works out at €0.60 a cigarette.

How much does smoking 10 cigarettes a day cost?

As an example, with a pack of 20 at €12, 10 cigarettes a day cost €6 per day, about €183 per month and €2,190 per year, or €21,900 over 10 years.

How much does smoking 5 cigarettes a day cost?

With the same assumptions (pack of 20 at €12), 5 cigarettes a day cost €3 per day, about €91 per month and €1,095 per year.

How much money do you save in a month without smoking?

It depends on how much you smoke and the price of a pack. For 10 cigarettes a day with a pack of 20 at €12, a 30-day month without smoking saves €180.

How do I calculate the money saved by quitting smoking?

Multiply the number of cigarettes you smoke per day by the price of one cigarette (pack price divided by cigarettes per pack), then by 365 for a year. That is exactly what the calculator does.

Does the calculator account for rising tobacco prices?

No. It assumes a constant pack price. If prices rise, your real savings will be higher than the estimate shown.

Many people set a concrete goal (a trip, a purchase) to make the savings visible. MyQuitZone lets you set a goal and follow its progress day by day.
